Five things to do in Hermanus this holiday

As usual Hermanus does not disappoint when it comes to providing the necessities of your annual family holiday. Nature walks, wine tasting, lazy lunches, art ambles, cycling, swimming, sunbathing and shopping – Hermanus has it all.

  1. Start the day with a brisk walk along the cliff path that hugs Walker Bay. Walk all the way from Grotto beach to the New Harbour for serious exercise or choose to do a shorter route with a coffee stop at Burgundy along the way. Enjoy the Hermanus FynArts sculptures along the way at Gearings Point and save the dates 5 – 16 June 2015 for the third Hermanus FynArts festival.
  2. There is no excuse for missing out on the Hermanus Wine Route experience. Visitors can enjoy a personal experience at the many boutique style wineries. Nothing beats the decadence of a brunch pairing at Creation. Oysters with Sauvignon Blanc and

crayfish with Chardonnay.  All the wines are served in Riedel glasses. Chocolate, tea, banting, cheese, vegetarian and a secret pairing with Creation’s range of wines ensures that there is a pairing for everyone.

  3. Head off to one of the beautiful beaches, cosy coves and tidal pools available in and around Hermanus. The nearby Onrus lagoon has a pool for children while parents can enjoy the waves of the bay. Alternatively, enjoy a cappuccino, milkshake or ice-cream at Davies Pool in Onrus while you wait for the tide to come in before you take the plunge.
  4. Adventure is only a short drive away to Hemel-en-Aarde Valley where SA Forest Adventure offers zip-sliding, paintball and quad bike rides. Saddle up and take a ride through the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinotage vineyards of Southern Right right up to a look-out over Hermanus and the Walker Bay.
  5. And then end the day with a sundowner glass of bubbly while enjoying vineyard views from the Champagne Verandah at La Vierge and planning your next visit to the wineries of the Hermanus Wine Route.
