Cape Town Weekend Magic

Table Mountain guards Cape Town

Thinking of Cape Town conjures images of Table Mountain, proteas, V&A Waterfront, walks in the Company Gardens, good food and great wines. Oh, and shopping!

First, we found a place to stay. We booked into the Icon Luxury Apartments which are centrally situated and within walking distance from the Waterfront, Company Gardens and city centre.  Vida e Caffe and Food Lovers Market are situated in the building which makes snacking and great coffee very accessible.

Our lunch and dinner choices were vast but we decided on:

Our meals were complemented by the following wines:

We added activity and walked around the Oranjezicht City Farm the Saturday morning, visited Boomslang, Kirstenboschthe newly established Tree Canopy Walk or “boomslang” at Kirstenbosch on Sunday and did shopping at V&A Waterfront whenever we had a free minute.  Morning walks were taken to the Cape Town Company Gardens and provided exercise with views of the interesting and eclectic Cape Town architecture.  A brisk walk along the Sea Point Promenade was invigorating and the fresh air did wonders for our energy levels.  There is an outside gym on the promenade to get the heart rate going while looking over the Atlantic Ocean and do people watching.

The cinemas at the Waterfront was great for catching up on the latest screening.  Nu Metro offers SCENE LUXURY CINEMA EXPERIENCE with soft, padded push-out chairs, trays for drinks and snacks and only a limited number of seats. Look out for the orange highlighted areas for the “luxury” option on their website.  Late night movies at the Waterfront were followed by coffee in the comfort offered by Tascha’s.

Giovanni’s in Green Point offers a quick espresso while buying snacks such as melanzane, bagels, mediterranean salads and rose petal yoghurt.  You might not need to eat more but you DO need to taste some Giovanni delicacies. The same applies for Charley’s Bakery in Canterbury Street. You might not need the colourful cupcakes but you need to sink your teeth into the soft wonderfulness for at least one bite. Charley's Bakery

A last coffee at Vida e Caffe on the Monday morning was the perfect ending to a jam-packed weekend.
